Greetings! My name is Sydney Gardner and I am from New York City (specifically Upper West Manhattan). I’m here as an IMGD major with a concentration in Tech Art and a minor in Computer Science.
I’ve always been a very artsy and creative person and have been making things for as long as I can remember. My affinity for art has long made me want to pursue it, but admittedly I’m still working out what fields I like. I’ve done a fair share of traditional art and drawing as well as digital work. I’ve always been a big animation nerd and have had a lot of fun playing around with different animation programs and tools. I’ve also branched out into 3D modeling and animation as well and am loving it. Outside of the digital art sphere I’ve tried my hand at a variety of crafts such as sewing, embroidery, sculpture, wood-burning, and jewelry making.
As for programming, I have experience in Java, C, C++, HTML5, and WPI favorite: Racket. I work at a STEAM-themed summer camp, so I have experience with block coding such as Scratch and Micro:Bit (with Micro:Bit being particularly relevant to this class because of its similarities to Makey Makey). I also worked a little with Arduino and Adafruit products. I have also recently gotten the chance to learn how to use 3D printers and look forward to trying to use that more in the future.
As I mentioned before I absolutely love animation and some of my favorite shows and movies are Avatar the Last Airbender, Hilda, Gravity Falls, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Lilo & Stitch, and Soul. I also have a very eclectic taste in music and listen to a variety of pop-punk, alternative, pop, folk, a little bit of metal and a lot of indie. I also take a lot of inspiration from games, with some of my all-time favorites being Undertale, Hades, A Short Hike, and Celeste.
Here is some of my work!

Cute – many of the designs, such as the sewing animals and the gif of the herd, have a very cute art style that compliments them really well.
Cute: I love the sewed projects they give off a “kawaii” vibe I would see in fun shops. The Build-A-Goat animation was super cute and the goats smiling solidified that. The baby dinosaurs also put a smile on your face. Overall, your art made me happy because of the cute factor!
Cute- Most of your projects have such a fun style and story interaction. My favorite would have to be the dinosaur drawings. I loved seeing your sketches for them, which look more like traditional dinosaurs, versus how you styled the final drawing.
Cute – Your designs deserve this badge. They are comforting in color and design, it’d be a great gift or something to add to the room. Besides your drawings, your animations, and orc model are impressive as well.
Colorful:
Both in the literal sense, and for you as a person. I recall you mentioned eclectic as your sole adjective during class as well as this description, and it shows in your portfolio.
Colorful – Everything is really inventive and fun, especially the animation provided. I won’t lie, I am jealous in your ability to sew plushies like that. They are really good, and look very vibrant!
Cute – the stuffed animal sewing is adorable. I like how colorful everything looks and they make me feel delighted.
Colorful- I really like your animations and character design!
Impressive: it is impressive that you display skills in 2D, 3D, AND sewing. All of your work has a liveliness to it.
SHINY: In all honesty, the works you’ve done absolutely shine with color and creativity, and although the orc and the plushies are nice, I cannot help but adore the Heist animation. Every touch of detail in the piece is excellent to see, and I cannot help but admire how each frame fits together. Even if the design is more simplistic compared to something like the orc, the expressions and the physicality are excellent in portraying this thieving individual. It’s also impressive how you’re able to do 3D and 2D animation with equal zeal, it’s certainly a skill that helps you stand out!
Cute – A lot of your work definitely has a super cute vibe! I especially love the sewing projects — the bee has my whole heart.
Cute – Your stuffed animals and dino designs are soooooo cute, I wish I could squish them
Colorful – All your pieces have a great color complex and it really brings the emotion out of the art.
Impressive – Wow, that orc 3D model is really, really good, and I can only imagine how much time went into it. The animation is also super smooth, I especially like the subtle facial animation.
Impressive – 2D animation is super cool! It takes so much time and your animations are so cute and detailed!
I am very amazed and astounded by your work so I think I may have to go with ‘impressive’ and/or ‘striking.’ Also Lilo and Stitch was one of my favorite Disney movies (it’s hard for me to discern a favorite but it’s definitely one of my oldest favorites). Also, I love Hilda, it fills the Gravity Falls sized hole in my heart – while providing an interesting insight into some Scandinavian folklore.
Detailed- I really like how details your 3d modeled ork is! Alongside that, I’ve done some sewing myself and I know how intensive template making can become!
Colorful – I love the dinosaurs piece. Your art is very cute and comforting and I am very impressed by your animating skills!!
