Pathways Project Documentation: Everything Went Wrong

(There’s probably stuff about what happened in here people will not care for, but at least it’s honest)

In short, nothing for this project went the way I was hoping.

In long, I originally had this big idea of drawing paths that would simulate how well people know each other (this concept is better explained in my other post, but that was the gist of it). In a previous class I was able to make some real headway into making this concept work; I was able to continuously draw a line to be my path, and I left confidently.

Then I tried to make the camera follow the line. It did for a while but then kept snapping back to the original position. I tinkered with it on and off for a while, but couldn’t get it to stop. I tried asking the Discord, but no one could really find why. I was able to get some answers from Professor Rosenstock, but come the Sunday evening of 10/10/21 I start feeling crummy.

Panic.

Monday morning: fever. Panic.

That cold that’s been going around campus? Yeah it was that (I gotten negative COVID tests). Over a week’s worth of late late nights working on ID2050 was too much for my immune system and it just went kablooey.

Tuesday was still not good health-wise but getting better. I was able to at least wire up the physical part of my project: the light sensor that controls where the line is. That was fun to play with but the sketch still looped to the start.

And now here’s Wednesday. Last day of classes, and I sullenly admit that Max has bested me. I have recently received some advice on what to do in the future, but I fear time is up. I would like to see if this idea is possible, potentially in a different program. I may try to look into that, but as for the Max generation of the Pathways project, it seems it reached a dead end (before looping back to the start I suppose).

I do have a brief demo video of the light sensor hooked up to the sketch.

Oh no! I hope you are feeling better. I actually know exactly what you’re talking about – I think I got the same campus cold over that Saturday. Lucky for me I did not have ID2050 so I was able to scope down and slug through my project (I made the physical piece 2 hours before class in a mad rush). Either way, nice work on that line drawing, it looks clean, and hope you’re able to rest up this break.

Oh no, a class getting sick reminds me of the Pax East flu multiple people got in 2019. Just like Kaamil I had to also figure out a way to work quickly due to time constraints and people being late on their animal photos. I do like the line and I can see this being a very cool game mechanic, not sure what yet but I can definitely see a lot of potential.
