Climate change has always been the elephant in the room in our everyday lives. We hear about global warming and carbon-dioxide emission everyday, but a lot of the time we perceive them as somewhat abstract ideas. This data art project is an attempt to visualize the carbon footprint of our favourite foods. We enjoy eating them everyday, but we might not are aware of the environmental impact of consuming them.
To address the previous question and comments on my sketch, I added a lots of texts to make the whole piece look more self-explainatory. I believe the idea will go through well with the texts. I also changed a lot of codes so I can play it along with music.
One more artist question: would it make the whole demonstration looks smoother if I add some animations as transitions?
UPDATED VERSION:
I changed the color abit to make everything looks clearer. Also I changed the music. The previous one drew too much unecessary attention away. And I added some animation to make the whole thing look smoother.

You want to reduce the carbon footprint of your food? Focus on what you eat, not whether your food is local

Permissioned opinion – I think this looks great and really emphasizes just how much beef contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. I think that when the circle for beef appears (or just when the diagram zooms out) it would look smoother if the animation was not just 2 frames (like it zoomed out with more frames in between), and also would prevent the viewer from waiting for the graphic before they can read the text that says beef.
Yeah I would definitely do that. I didnt know how to do animations stuff before and I think that would be a great help.
How did you decide on how the objects would stack on one another?
Probably just see how they come together visually. I moved aound them a lot and settled down in this composition. The idea is to emphasize how big the Beef sphere is.
I enjoyed how your piece actually looked like a carbon molecule, it definitely got the message through of what the piece was about at first glance.
Glad you enjoyed it 🙂 It was not intentional tho but I think it is really cool that people can branch out and relate this image to other things.
To answer your question, I don’t know what you mean exactly by adding animals as transitions, but in all honesty I think the transitions are good the way they are. I think that your timing does a good job of letting each food’s carbon emission really sit with the viewer and show the severity.
I was saying animations not animal haha. Anyways thank you for the feedback and dont worry about it : D
What feelings/emotions should the music evoke?
This is a very interesting question actually. Because I think I have a particular reason for chosing the music but I actually cannot put it into words. It is a more abstract feeling. I maybe want it to have an wise old man gently revealing a devastating truth kind of vibe. Calm, powerful, and terrifying at the same time.
What made you decide to pick the food that you represented in this project?
I knew beef is a must, and the rest is just common everyday foods that can feel suitable for the transition.
How were you able to keep a consistent zoom in and out on your scene?
