With Autumn quickly approaching and the atmosphere around WPI working hard to achieve a crispy cool perfection (you can especially feel it in the early morning!), I felt that it was only appropriate to share the nostalgic feeling that Autumn provokes through this project. I aim to set up several items that remind me of Fall for individuals to interact with that will attach to their own playlists of sounds and visuals to be heard/shown when said interaction occurs. I would like to eventually make a canvas piece composed of the items chosen, however first I would like to get the idea expressed before I try to further complicate it.
Would the playlist and sounds shown/heard connect to the season of autumn such as the crunching of leaves, or the wind blowing?
I would want the visuals to be connected to the actual scenery of Autumn while the audio to be more connected to the feelings of Autumn 🙂
Do you plan on including music in your piece?
Yes! Most likely instrumental pieces, perhaps having a playlist for each interactive piece that is dedicated to specific instruments.
A solid idea, and a curious one to be certain. Without a question to go off of, I would have to ask how to make a Pine cone or Leaf conductive. I know little about the material components of this project (outside of the basics), so I’m curious to learn how this is accomplished. I would expect some conductive tape or other substance to be involved, but I’m unfamiliar with your art kit.
I’m not quite sure yet! It’s definitely something I will have to play around with to find what works best for what I want to make, but I suspect I will either use the conductive tape or thread
Good luck with finding connective items for fall, maybe adding a fan like object would be good in order to give off the cool night breeze.
What are some examples of these autumn items, and would they be the physical items in your piece, or would they be models of them?
Some examples include flowers, leaves, and acorns. I would have to find ways to make them conductive, though.
How do you plan on having the user attach their own playlists of sounds and visuals?
I do not, I plan on using my own experiences to put together playlists that I think reflect the changing of the seasons
What do you consider to be essential aspects of the Fall?
For me personally, I would incorporate some items related to Halloween since it’s my favorite holiday.
