Computer Vision/Audio Input Sketch – Squish The Squirrel

He jump. He stretch. He squish. All with the power of your screams. Ok maybe screams is an overstatement. Either way, I present to you my lil squirrel doodle that I made react to audio input. It’s a simple system, but as soon as we started discussing this project in class I knew I wanted to make it run a flipbook-style animation based on the user’s input. I was trying to figure out what loop would work well for the animation and decided upon the standard ball bouncing animation, but wanted to make it fun.

Moving forward, a fun project could be making different loops based on different visual inputs rather than audio (Like mouth shapes or body movements), which could add complexity and interest.

Your piece is so addictive to look at! The squirrel bouncing animation is so neat and I think adding mouth movements would be very interesting

The art style is very neat and cute. Well done on the visual changes to the squirrel to represent it getting stretched/compressed.

The art style is very neat – I like how you took a classic animation and added some great flavor to the whole thing by personifying (animalizing?) the ball and the making it audio driven.

I like the idea of a bouncy squirrel and how it works with voice activation. I think that choosing a flipbook style works really well here because moving the pages to random areas works really well here.

I love that you incorporated an animation component to this project. It seems more interactive when the user has influence over something resembling a living thing (or aspect of one).

The squirrel is absolutely adorable! 🙂 It would be cool if you expanded off of it later and made it so you could actually treat it as like a pet and do different things with it!
