For my interactive art piece, I wanted to show the subtle beauties of autumn. At first I thought that I would make the controller out of various items that remind me of fall and the emotions associated with it, but in the end, I found myself using the hydrangeas that grow in my yard at different stages in their lives surrounding a canvas of found flowers and leaves. Each hydrangea shares a different aspect of fall that brings comfort and joy. The animations are drawn over compilations I put together of videos I associated with these feelings (Links to the original full videos below) and are separated by aspects: fall harvest, forest and leaves, the general vibes, and cozy drinks.

I think it is striking that you did 3D video instead of using 2D animation. I think it fits the message better to get a physical interpretation. Did you use stop motion for the project? One opinion I have is I really like the diversity of the flower color that you used.
The variety of colors you use really show autumn’s colors and gentle vibes. Autumn has been growing on me and this piece definitely helps! I think you captured it very well with your animations and audio.
This is a bold use of animation compared to all of the other projects, and a clever use of the makeymakey as well! It’s a vibrantly colorful piece on and offline, and each portion adds to the naturalist ideas it represents. I would want to ask if there was any way for you to make the visuals bigger? It may have been for the preview alone, but I think it would be awesome if the visuals could be made full screen in some way.
The videos you created make me so excited for fall! I love the various types of flowers you used — the hydrangeas especially are super interesting with their color variety.
The colors of this piece make it feel really joyful and cute. I appreciate that our projects are similar in that we are trying to capture a feeling through objects :-). I think that next time the animations could be larger so that they maybe take up the whole screen?
I think your project may have benefitted the most from the premise of using interactive objects. The flowers both show the beauty of autumn and provide a matching tactile sensation. It even engages the sense of smell in addition to touch. As a result, it evokes autumn in a way that would not have been possible without an interactive, physical portion.
I really enjoyed the animations for this piece and it definitely gave me autumn and fall feelings! Did you 3D animate over videos that you took or did you use stop motion? Either way they’re phenomenal 🙂
I really like the flowers and how they are set up on the board and the transition between animations are smooth and delightful to watch. On my end the video is getting a very static sound, is this part of the project or is this something from my video?
I really like how tactile you made the piece!
