Conor Dolan – Interactive Touch Project

For my interactive touch project, I chose to do the topic of the benefits of being in a fraternity. I chose to go into detail about what I think are my top five benefits that I’ve gotten out of mine, which are Academics, Philanthropy, Brotherhood, Social, and Housing.

For my input, I made five clay buttons that represent one of the five benefits. When pressed, they trigger a short animation and audio clip explaining that benefit. The background was made in Photoshop and the animations in Adobe Animate, and of course I connected it all with Max.

Your animation is very visually appealing and the concept of “brotherhood” is moving. What drew you towards using a robotic animated voice? An opinion I have is instead of using blue play-doh circles, you can create colorful representations through sculptures such as a book or a heart, for example.

These pieces are so excellently designed, and show a lot of care for the subject. The animation in particular has some solid drawings that not only depict each trait well, but also has color and texture that makes it stand out against the neutral background and pure white pillars. I want to ask if there was every any intention of painting the circles for the controller, since it would help them stand out. Although the carvings are helpful, a touch of paint indicative of the trait could make it clear to the user.

The animation(s) triggered seems great by following the principles of animation. Why did you choose those five displays for the association to their respective ideas? I like the detail in the background and fluidity of the animation.

The animations are super fluid and dynamic. I love the style! My permissioned opinion is that the audio would be improved if it were in your own voice, as it would show more passion about the topic than the generated one.

This project is awesome, the animations are really well done and the visuals are very clear and concise while still retaining their abstraction. I think that you should paint the buttons. I don’t know how playdough treats paint, but, should you decide to try painting, gently sanding the buttons before painting might help.

The animations get the point across and the interface objects are visually appealing. An opinion I have is to put your voice or a combination of people in your fraternity to do the voiceover. Why did you chose blue putty for your inputs?

I love the little animations in this project they’re very cute and convey the idea of brotherhood and togetherness well. I’m not sure how playdough takes paint, but you could experiment with some different playdough colors and perhaps make some aspects of the sculptures 3D and have them “pop out” from the flat surface of the playdough.
