Meme Remix: Bungee Gum

Hisoka, one of the main antagonists of the anime series Hunter x Hunter, possesses an ability called “Bungee Gum”, named after his favorite bubblegum candy from when he was a child. This ability is actually the strongest ability of its kind in the series. There need only be one thing to understand about Bungee Gum:

“Bungee Gum has the properties of both rubber and gum.”

This quote became popular among fans because of how often it is said throughout the series by Hisoka and, of course, the goofy nature of the line. He also seemingly picks the strangest times to say it, like when he has just brutalized an enemy. Overall, it’s a pretty silly way of explaining one of your most-used and strongest abilities. (Literally, this ability is the strongest one mentioned throughout the whole show, and this quote does not do it justice.)

I modified the Makey Makey patch to allow me to skip to certain frames of the Hunter x Hunter clip, as well as change the playback rate.

The goal of the project is to be able to manipulate the video to a beat and create some kind of musical composition. There will also be more effects added. I also want to add more instances of him saying “Bungee Gum”.

I think that turning a voice into a remix would work well here. I have seen other people do it with different characters and have found the videos to be very entertaining.

I think it would be neat to have different clips of other times he’s said the same line since it was repeated throughout the series. 🙂

Love HxH! To piggyback off Jasmine’s statement-I too would really look forward to seeing various clips animated throughout to make the piece really come alive

The audio shifts are comical, the Djing sound of a tunrtable never go wrong.

I guess I never noticed Hisoka saying that since I always watched the anime subbed. I would piggyback with everyone to say different moments (but not spoilers) but I really liked the looping.

I think the meme contributes more to how ridiculous both the character and the power are portrayed. The repetition helps cement how unique and powerful it is, but lacks gravitas.

I like how you apply sound filters to change the pitch and give everything a comedic feel

Holy crap, this is like a piece of classic youtube poop, and I’m glad to have seen it. All the effects are there, pitch ups, pitch downs mixing up the words into something weird, it’s great! Legitimately funny sometimes too, like with “The proper propers of see”, which is so fitting for Meme quality. The fact you pulled this off with Max is also quite impressive, and the fact that the edits can happen at will is quite an interesting tool for making memes like this.

I like how you turned a single line into a whole remix! I also appreciate how you used the makey makey to control the piece!
