Hello, my name is Conor Dolan and I’m from Wantage, New Jersey. I’m a second year IMGD student here at WPI. Art has always been a big part of my life, I grew up with a mother and grandmother who are very artistic, and I started drawing pretty much as soon as I could hold a pencil. I still consistently practice my art, although I do more digital art than traditional now. Another form of art I’ve always been obsessed with is animated cinema, and computer generated imagery, and my dream is to someday work for a big studio that makes movies/TV. Studios such as Pixar, Sony, and Dreamworks shaped my childhood and have always been a huge inspiration for me. I have a little bit of programming experience, but I have never really used programming, electronics, or other tech for art purposes, but I’m very excited to try it out in this class.
The top left is an abstract self portrait I made in Illustrator and Photoshop.
The top middle is a Rush t-shirt design that I made for my fraternity. (If you’re reading this and interested in joining Greek Life come talk to me! ๐ )
The top right is a screenshot from the first playable game I ever made, which was almost completely illustrated by me.
The bottom two are two angles of Johnny Bravo that I made in Zbrush.
Familiar – I like the references that you have done. I am familiar with Johnny Bravo and I love the work that you put into making a 3D model of him.
I would also agree with familiar: I used to watch JB as a kid and it brought back some nostalgia- great job evoking that feeling as an artist. Also, the “rush grow” reminded me of GTA; again a familiar game. NIce job with the accuracy of fonts used for GTA allusion and JB’s build.
Familiar- Graphic design has been a favorite art style (??? visual design might be the better choice? you know what I mean though), so I love your t shirt design. I like your choice to box in the main subject and then to break it with the flowers at opposite corners.
Familiar – I like how that Johnny Bravo turned out, its instantly recognizable. I noticed that polygon-snake work as well, looks like wireframes of a 3D model.
impressive – You are really talented in art, whether it is 2d or 3d. I went to your channel and I was in shock by the Nose, Ears, and Mouth sculpting video, I struggle with 3d modeling so when I see someone who is really talented at this craft it leaves me in awe! Well done!
Clever – I like your use of the GTA style in that rush crow poster. The self portrait also looks really cool to me.
Colorful: The Rush Crow shirt look so good, I really love all of the colors you chose. The medusa head is also really cool- its something I could see being made into a neon sign easily. Your use of line creates sharp, clear, and instantly readable designs.
Impressive- I especially like your polygon self-portrait. The way those geometries all intersect so sharply yet give a smoothing feel is very interesting in ways that are hard to describe.
Clever: I particularly like the Rush Crow poster you made, looks great and is just straight-up cool.
It is also neat that you present skill in both 2D and 3D realms, proving you are very dedicated to both crafts.
FUNNY: Needless to say, the Johnny Bravo Piece absolutely killed me. As a design, Bravo is suited for two dimensions, especially due to how exaggerated his body is. Realizing him as a more three dimensional humanoid was simply hilarious, especially with how obvious it is that his shirt barely contains his chest. His hair rising from his head like some weird obelisk is also a nice touch, and in general you nailed the spirit of the design while also adding some realistic touches that make me appreciate just how intentionally silly his design is.
Clever – That GTA-style poster is so eye-catching and a really great way to use what people already know and love, tying a new experience to it!
Clever – I’m a huge fan of the Rush Crow poster! I love that you used the familiar gta style and gave it a twist.
Thought-Provoking – The self portrait that you made is really well done with the colors creating the lighting. I usually do flat designs for websites but this was a very intriguing illustration.
Quirky – I really like the variety of work you put here! From the geometric work to the shirt design to the 3D model itโs all very cool. I also really like the screenshot from the game; it has a sort of cool vapor-wave vibe to it and I was pleasantly surprised to click it and see it move!
Detailed – the 3D model looks just like the character it was based on! I liked watching your process video for your sculpt as well
I think I may go with ‘detailed’ based on the amount of context provided for your work and for starting a YouTube channel.
Funny- The Rush Crow drawing made me smile. The line work and expression is priceless!
Quirky – Love the johnny bravo model!! I think it’s really fun to film yourself making art, watching the timelapse / sped up video afterwards is really satisfying.. You get to watch it and be like “Omg that hand took me 30 mins to draw” or what have you xD
