This term I’ve had a lot of fun integrating animation in with our interactive pieces and wanted to show that in my final project; I determined that for the theme of “connections” I would make short animations of ghosts tied by the red strings of fate and create a playboard to control what audio and visual data is shared. I thought it would be cute if the bord was also the ghosts, so I used my very limited sewing knowledge to whip up two tiny ghost plushies that have sections of conductive thread to make the animations run. I also wanted to keep a specific feeling with the audio, so I decided to use blips of theremin audio for the controller portion and a lighthearted “spooky” theremin song for background music. Through the board and camera, the players are able to change the saturation of the scene as well as pitch of the audio, making a goofy “singing” experience.
I really like your hand-drawn animations and your props, they look really cute!
The physical aspect of your project is so so adorable and matches well with the animations on the screen. I want a little plushie ghost.
The animations were so detailed and cute! The physical aspect of your project was so appealing and was great at hiding your wires
I like the look of both of the ghosts that you made for this project. Did you run into any problems connection wise with the Makey Makey?
There were no problems with the connections to the makey makey, thankfully!
So much to say for these little buddies. Not only is the use of physical plushes impressive considering the amount of work required, and not only is the background impressive, but the variety of interactions make this project really stand out. The facial recognition, the plushies, and all the animations make this a solid addition to the projects on display.
I love the animations and ghosts.
The characters/inputs are adorable and set the mood of the entire art piece very effectively.
The two ghosts look absolutely adorable both in the animation and real life. What sensor did you use to trigger input when touching the ghosts?
This is one of my favorite pieces! From your demo in class, all the animation looked super clean and had a consistent cute style throughout which I enjoyed! Love your art and style!
The plushies and drawings are very consistent and cohesive, you can tell they belong together. Impressive for such different mediums!
