Design Concept:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I plan to use edge lit, raster and vector engraved 0.25″ acrylic on this piece. In researching various layered edge lit pieces online, I noticed how the further back a layer, the blurrier and less detailed the design because light needs to travel through many layers. I plan to embrace and enunciate this property in my design instead of accepting it as a limitation by slowly blurring each subsequent piece of acrylic. Additionally, I plan on adding a progression of the design such that the shape of the front panel deteriorates layer by layer into the back panel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Research:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have been inspired for a long time by the makers at Adafruit<\/a>. For this project, I was inspired by Adafruit’s use of edge lighting on some of their layered pieces. Below, I found an acrylic piece<\/a> and a piece that used hot glue sticks<\/a>, which I found very creative. I plan to use similar techniques and make a light show out of my piece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
