Here are some updates I have for the progress I have made to my lantern. I have my final SVG files I used to cut the pieces and a picture with a sample of a couple different pieces I have cut out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Below are screenshots of the basic layout I have created in Inkscape for the different Tetris pieces, they are labeled based off of the letter shape of each piece (reference the top photo in this post to get an idea of what the broken down pieces will come together to be). I have not added any of the engraving yet of the smaller Tetris pieces within the block as I am still working out how exactly I want that design to look which I am still rough sketching ideas for. I have not specifically figured out how exactly I want to join all of the pieces which is why the design right now is still very simple, but I have the 8×8 acrylic sheets that I will be cutting the pieces out of so I will be able to get to making some test cuts ASAP. I want to make these test cuts because before I cut our all my pieces I want to see what the best attachment method will be whether that is finger joints or just gluing the flat edges together in a certain way so that I can make sure not to waste the limited resources I have. I am open to any suggestions if anyone has any experience with attaching acrylic in a similar way and has a preferred method they think works best. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The image to the left is a more detailed sketch of what I am thinking about engraving on each larger piece. I would probably make a layer for each type of shape and copy and paste and then orient them in different ways on the different pieces to make sure there’s enough variation but also making sure there isn’t too much overlap so I don’t lose the overall effect. My question with this aspect of the lamp is should I have the engraving on each individual square on the larger pieces or only do 1 or a couple sides (the main faces of the piece)? I want to add enough detail to each piece but I don’t want to go too overboard and make the pieces look too busy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
