A delayed post, but here’s my idea for the lantern project! I have this light that my aunt gave me that I love — it’s super pretty, but the only problem is that it runs on solar power (it’s meant to be an outdoor garden-type decoration) and my room doesn’t get enough sun to charge it consistently. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m okay with using it as a decoration, but I’d really love to have a version that lights up… so, I’ve decided to make one! Kind of. My plan is to modify a desk lamp and turn it into a pink flower — I don’t have a sketch for it yet because it’s really going to depend on what sort of lamp I can find at the thrift store (I could technically make the whole thing from scratch, but I don’t know a lot about electrical wiring and since this is something I want to use in my room as a regular lamp, I’d rather it not be a fire hazard lol).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Right now, my plan is to laser cut (and maybe engrave idk) the petal piece(s) from acrylic, and then warm them with a heat gun to make them able to be bent. I’ve been looking into this, but it is possible to do without melting it or making the surface bubble! I’ll just have to do some tests first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I haven’t fully decided how I’m going to attach the petals on, but I figured I could pretty much just superglue them on and then cover the contact point with the leaf\/stem connection piece. I have to look into what sort of materials would be okay for this, but my first thought is clay and floral tape.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
