My plan is to first make a sample clock out of cardboard and test it with the clock kit. Once I am sure about the size and shape I will make the final version with wood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I am still looking into how I am going to get the bottom three layers blue. I like the look of staining over painting however the stains I found originally didn’t have great reviews. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Update 1 <\/strong>– The clock kit arrived today and I was able to cut a prototype of the clock out of cardboard. I was able to get all four layers to work with the cardboard however the hour hand just barely clears the top layer so I’m not sure if it will work with the wood layers. I think I am going to add more tick marks around the edge to make it easier to read, but other than that I’m happy with how it looks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n I’m still looking into stain options, the one on the class list of resources looks good however it comes as a powder so I would have to get an additional liquid to mix them with. I’m going to keep looking into other options and hold off on buying anything until after I have all the pieces cut out of wood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Update 2<\/strong> – I laser cut all the layers with wood and stained the bottom 3 layers. I didn’t end up adding more tick marks to the clock face because I had an issue with Inkscape but I like the way it looks. All I have left to do is sand the edges, clean up the back piece, and glue everything together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n I am considering staining the top two layers a deeper brown because it feels a little unfinished but I’m not sure so I would appreciate opinions on that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n I’ve started looking into buying the wood and clock kit for my clock. I’m still changing the design so the clock mechanism can go in the middle. I plan to make the clock approximately 10″ in diameter but I might make it smaller.
