Final Projects – Sebastian Lanz

on

Here is a shot of all three of my finished projects. They aren’t perfect but in the end I am really happy with them.

To reiterate my design concepts:

My layers project is mean’t to be a polygonal and abstract sea turtle. I experimented with depth, and simple shapes that still create something distinct and recognizable. I chose a green, blue, and teal paint finish to nail the ocea vibes for the piece.

For my lantern project I went with an RGB lit, retro nintendo cuboid lantern. The overall shape is not too striking, but the simplicity allowed me to focus more on the laser engraved designs. I think I ended up making it to small to be a proper lantern, but it works really well as fun desk light.

Lastly, for my altered toys project I designed what I have coined “The Overly Complicated Die”. I wanted to recreate the effect of rolling the die, but in a much less simple way. It turns rolling the die into its only little game. I was inspired by little pinball toys and pachinko machines. It is designed to be fair, but after printing it, it most likely is not perfectly fair. I am hoping to create a smaller one fitted for smaller marbles, to make it easy to bring to board games night or to a DnD session. If I can fit it on the ultimakers, the print will also be more precise, ensuring it is a fair die\

The color was the right choice for the turtle. It really makes the piece stand out. I also love what you did with the lantern. I am a big fan of all these systems, and your perfectly recreated them on the sides. Also, your dice wall is so funny, and I really hope you are able to use it in an actual DnD session.

The way the light shines through the text of the lantern project is really mesmerizing! Really like how clear you can make out the text even if it’s lit and how it’s in the font for each Nintendo system.

I really love your lantern. It brings back so much nostalgia for me (i grew up with nintendo). Your altered toys is also very nostalgic for me. I grew up playing a large version of the game at my elementary school carnival. Overall, your pieces are super fun!

The nintendo lantern brings back so many memories. I also really like the overly complicated die, that’s something I would love to use in any game with dice.
