Hi everyone! My name is Mikayla Raffin and I’m from Franklin Massachusetts. I am a senior biology/biotechnology major, and while my focus at WPI is heavily based on STEM I continue to try and fit art into my life where ever I can as it has been my passion for as long as I can remember.
I have always enjoyed art in and out of school so at any moment you would find me in whatever art class was offered or after school club that were art based or even just spending my free time drawing and painting. In my early years I utilized mainly traditional artforms from drawing with pencils and markers to painting with acrylic or oil paints, but as I progressed and developed my skill I wanted to push myself to try other more complex forms of art like wood working, digital art, special effects makeup and more. I’m also super into discovering cool music and looking at the concepts and impacts of past and future fashion trends. Being able to try all of these different forms of media has only expanded my love and appreciation for all forms of art.
At WPI I have taken essentials of art, digital imaging and computer art, video production, concept art and creative illustration, as well as a music history and art history class. I completed my humanities seminar in art and my project was focused on making SWAG (branded freebies to give away) for WPI out of all recycled materials which was super interesting. In this seminar class we learned how to use the laser cutters and used them to make a lot of our ideas come to life so that knowledge will definitely be a huge help in making some cool pieces in this course!
Here are some art pieces completed or in progress that I have made recently!
