I was inspired by designs from Below the Boat featuring wooden topographic maps. I traced a portion of the map I wanted in Inkscape but I had to simplify and change some parts until it looked the way I wanted. Originally I wanted to make a clock so I changed the map layers to fit a circle and added another layer on top for the tick marks. I’m still playing around with the design and I have to find out the dimensions of the clock mechanism I’m going to use to make sure it will fit.

What are your plans for making the teal colored parts of the piece
I originally planned to use a blue wood stain, but I have also considered painting it.
What are your plans for implementing the clock mechanism?
I bought a clock kit on amazon and I’m going to add a hole in the middle.
Why did you choose this location specifically?
My family has been there a coupe times and I wanted to do a place with water.
What materials do you plan to use?
I want to use wood but I’m not sure what type and thickness yet.
How did you come up with the idea to make it into a clock?
I knew I wanted to make a clock for my dad’s office but I wasn’t sure what design I was going to do
What are your plans for layering the materials? Will the layers be inset or will they be more 3D?
They will be stacked on top of each other. The darkest layer is on the bottom and the lightest layer is on the top.
What were your thoughts about how depth will be created in this piece?
I plan to create depth by stacking the layers on top of each other and by staining or painting the bottom layers a dark blue.
What inspired you to make the design into a clock? Will it have clock hands in the final design?
My dad wanted a clock for his office and I thought this would be a cool way to make one. The final design will have clock hands, I am still trying to figure out how long they should be.
If you continue with the clock design, do you plan on having raised sections or just inserts of different color/texture.
There will still be raised sections but I might have to remove a layer or two so that the hands don’t bump into the taller layers.
