Hello everyone! This is a summary of the 3 projects I was able to finish this term.
First up is the layers project. I wanted to do a fun, cartoonish dinosaur scene that I could turn into a wall decor piece for my apartment. I had fun learning how to use the laser cutter for bigger projects, assembling the pieces together, and painting it. Afterwards, I added a hook on the back, so now it is an actual functional wall decor piece!! I am particularly happy with how the color theme turned out, and I think it fits in with the general “vibe” of my apartment.
Next up is the lantern project. This was a labor of love. It definitely took me the most time out of the 3 projects, with many steps. The original concept was to make duck lantern similar to a duck light I already owned. I have a small obsession with this little animal lights, so I thought “why not make another one”. Originally I was worried that I would have two identical duck lamps, but I think that was a little too aspirational on my part (the two ducks look very much not the same). But I still love how he turned out!! He has a little heart inside, which took a lot of time to place into the duck layers. I thought that I could use a light I already owned, but it turned out to be the wrong size so I still have to find a good light. But I think it looks pretty cool just on top of a phone screen displaying a colorful video!
Lastly is the altered toys project. I had a lot of fun because my goal was to put a spin on my childhood stuffed animal, Cowball. I reimagined him into different shapes: cone, cube, and cylinder. I enjoyed learning how to use the 3D printer. Someone suggested making them stackable, which I thought was a great idea, so that is what I did. My painting is not as neat as I would like, but overall they’re very similar to what I was imagining.

And that’s it! I really enjoyed learning all of these new skills throughout the course of the class. I already have ideas about what I want to laser cut next!
I absolutely love your cow blocks! That is such a creative altercation to a very cute toy! I also like the detail of the heart inside the penguin
