Altered Toy Design – Laura Pellowski

My childhood stuffed animal is a stuffed cow in the shape of a ball. I was very creative when I was little and I named him “Cowball”. Well, he has stuck with me through almost two decades. He has flattened a bit, but he’s still looking good for his age.

Cowball is a very personal object to me, so I thought he would be the perfect subject for my altered toy design project. The theme is: what other shapes can Cowball be? Well… I present to you all.. Cowcube!

Here is Cowball in comparison to Cowcube. I tried to get the spots to look accurate. I didn’t like any of the arms or legs that I tried to attach to Cowcube, so Cowcube gets no arms or legs.

I am thinking of making a collection of small Cowshape toys. Perhaps I could add a Cowcone or Cowcylinder? Let me know if you have recommendations!

I like it! Make sure to think about supports when printing. With any orientation, there is going to be something sticking out and the layer-by-layer method may or may not respond well to it

Cowball and Cowcube are both very cute. I think Cowcylinder would be fun addition!

This is a great idea! I think adding paint after you print will really be able to bring the spots to life.

Very neat idea! If you plan to make more cow shape toys maybe having a way to have them stack together would be fun to be able to create a tower of cow shapes.

I love cowcube. I would like to see cowcylinder, and cowcone as well. I think this will print well you may have some supports that might not leave the piece looking the way you want around the eyes and nose, but that can be fixed with some sandpaper and paint. I agree with everyone else that said that painting the spots would really bring cowcube to life. Are you going to request light brown filament when you go to print?
