Lantern Project Finished – Kaitlyn Nguyen

on

This is my finished lantern project! I revisited the parts in solid works, specifically the side pieces for the rounded dome of the mushroom, to make them fit properly. It isn’t perfect but significantly better than my last iteration. The “stem” is just a series of circles cut from wood in decreasing size. I ended up cutting the project from 1/4” wood due to lack of 1/8” wood size stock and being confined to the small laser cutter in innovation, but that was due to bad timing on my part. The led lays on its side within the top dome and shines onto this stencil that projects stars, a moth, and snail! The light shadow isn’t perfect but I’m surprised with the details that did end up being retained through the projection. While the placement of this stencil is a bit awkward, it gets the job done! I was planning on adding color but I honestly enjoy the wood look, not for the mushroom idea itself but in general. Overall I’m happy with how it turned out. The design could have used a bit more work especially with the stencil placement but in the end its a silly little lamp to shine my silly creatures on the wall.
