Katherine Tse Final Projects:

The inspiration for my layers project was a lotus flower. I have always loved how dainty the flower looks floating on the water. As I started to model the flower in inkscape, I realized that I could also use the negative space created by the main pieces of the flower. My final layers project consists of the original flower design and negative space flower created from the extra material. I used clear, transparent green, transparent florescent pink, and transparent florescent yellow acrylic as my main medium. I used gorilla super glue to hold it all together.

The idea behind my lantern project was a starry night sky over a forest of trees. I used 1/8th inch plywood as my main material. With the help of kerf testing and kerf cuts, I was able to get the base box to fit together. I used parchment paper and fairy lights to get the defused lighting and star effect. I once again used gorilla super glue to secure all of the pieces.

My altered toys project was inspired by Barbie doll clothes. Since we were 3D printing things, I wanted to take a spin on something that is traditionally soft and flexible. The clothes turned out rigid and very geometric. There is no stretch or give and the items really wouldn’t fit anyone. This also represents the fashion industry and how today, clothes rarely ever fits anyone right when it comes off the rack. I used standard PLA filament to print the base pieces and acrylic paint to add some color.

I love your layers project I think the materials you used and the organic shapes of each layer really capture the essence of a water lily. I also love your altered toys project and all the details you were able to include in the dress. I really like how the rings are removable and it looks like it could be worn multiple ways but since it is a hard plastic it will not fit anyone even Barbie which really gets your point across about fashion.

It was such a cool idea to use the negatives as its own piece! It came out great. The fairy lights were also the perfect choice for getting that starry night look. I also like the gradient on your black and white dress. I didn’t see it that well in class, but it looks like an actual piece of clothing.
