Lantern WIP: Haley Gilbert

I have decided on doing a “nightlight” design (my material never came for my other idea, love amazon lol) for my dads new work shed at home. I got this pack on amazon of 4 plates of acrylic and bases, however I may use the acrylic I already have for this and then use those for a later project.

Here is my updated design for this new approach. Should I raster everything or do some vector cuts to make areas stand out such as the letters?

I like the idea of nightlights! In my opinion, making some vector cuts would make the light brighter in those areas.

I like the contrast from the more organic and rough lines of the main subject with the smooth and clean lines of the letters. I think if you engrave it all the piece would look really cool. If you are concerned about depth and getting different textures with the engraving it might be fun to experiment with different power settings for different parts of the image, ex: have a higher laser power for the letters and the biker, have a lower power for the mountains and the lowest for the trees or something like that. Since you are considering using different acrylic are you planning on using a colored piece?

I really like the idea of making a flat piece that lights up rather than a box shaped design. I think having everything rastered will help disperse the light better than doing a mix of cuts.
