For my layers concept sketch I want to do a sculpture using depth and the infinity/lemniscus symbols. The concept of infinity and the shape of the symbol have always been very interesting to me so I want to do a repetition of the symbol to make it seem limitless similar to the reference I included below from the layers slide show. I want to alternate either colored wood or raster engraved and non-raster engraved layers of wood to give a greater sense of depth. I am unsure what shape to make the outside/outline of the sculpture, I am between either just doing an infinity symbol stacked that gets smaller than bigger similar to an hourglass or using a triangle that also has the symbol vector engraved on the top and bottom of the sculpture. I am also between rotating each layer or not but it may make it more difficult to assemble. I want to have holes in the inside of the lemniscus so you can look through the entire sculpture through those two holes to show that sense of depth. I intend on using Baltic birch wood only or adding another color of wood.

I was just wondering what your plan is for the holes cut in each layer because with the cool twisting effect if they are all cut out of the middle will you still be able to see all the way through? Could you align them all to the edges and would that allow you to twist them and see farther into it or do you not mind if you can only see so deep into the cutouts?
