Lantern Design – Griffin Bowers

For my lantern design I want to make a gemstone shaped lamp that is two square pyramids stacked on top of one another. I intend to either use wood or paper and a diffusion material to create the lantern. I used templatemaker.nl/en/ to make the template for the gemstone. The hole would be in the bottom or the top of the lamp depending on if I make it a desk or ceiling light.

My question is, should I make this a desk lamp or a ceiling light as shown in the sketch above?

To answer your question, I think this would be awesome as a hanging light!

I think the hanging design is more striking, but the desk design is more practical. I would encourage setting up the piece to work with both and see which you end up preferring when you have it made.

I agree with everyone else about the hanging lamp.
Have you decided on what design you will put each side? I see three cool ones in the corner of your drawing.

I personally like the hanging design, how are you going to illuminate it?

If you make it out of wood, how are you planning on attaching the pieces together?

I think that a desk lamp would be really cool as wood with a diffuse layer. I think a hanging lamp would be awesome mad out of paper. I’ve seen some really cool hanging lanterns and I think that I would personally do that.

I really like the idea of a hanging lantern! It would probably be easier to make with paper, depending on the light source. I think wood would work well if you leave it as a desk lamp.
