First Cut(s) – Deidra Anderson

I printed my Celtics logo drawing as my first cut. You can see from the laser photo that I didn’t get the engrave settings quite right the first time (despite test cuts), so I stopped the machine mid-cut and tried again. I had never used the laser cutter before, so shoutout to Calvin for the help!

I noticed the texture of your piece is very different. I am struck by how well the Celtics logo was able to be translated into a black and white image. I appreciate the way you put your spin on the Celtics Logo by changing which spaces were filled. in.

I noticed you slam-dunking into the wooden courts with all the might of a Celtic legend, embossed in timber like a hoops hero of lore. I was struck by the electrifying energy you bring, making that wood grain sing with the echoes of Boston’s cheers. I appreciate the way you mesh sport with art, dribbling across the boundaries of tradition with the finesse of a court sorcerer, conjuring victory in the grain with every etched crossover and swish!

I noticed the lack of contrast in the design. I’m struck by the way you used only raster engraving, no vector engraving. It makes the design softer and adds a calming visual effect. I appreciate the way you included a lot of detail, but still made the design feel simple.

I noticed the unique outline of the shape itself. I am surprised by how detailed the image is despite the engraving seeming decently shallow. I appreciate the way you used something familiar. I think it’s cool that it’s such a recognizable symbol.

I am surprised by the detail that your image contains without hard lines being used. I like familiar log being used though so it is easily recognizable. The texture of the image is also very interesting, it looks very rough and I would like to feel it.

I noticed how the texture of the wood is. It adds a nice touch to the whole design.
