Hey y’all, my name is Deidra and I am a senior in civil engineering. I was born and raised in Billerica, MA, but I have family in Tennessee, so have spent a lot of my life there too. I play for the varsity cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track team here at WPI, but love and play other sports too when I can. Traveling is a huge part of my life, so I always have my next flight booked. I’ve been to 36 countries in the world and should be adding at least 3 more this summer.
I don’t really have experience making digital art or working in the makerspace, but growing up I took a lot of traditional art classes with drawing/painting. My focus has shifted towards traditional engineering in recent years, so nowadays, my art usually extends to smaller-scale projects like designing my bedroom, and apartment, designing my IQP/MQP report booklets, making Christmas presents, etc. I don’t have a fancy camera or anything, but I tend to be very fond of photography as well. In the future, I’d like to keep incorporating smaller art projects into my life. I like being artistic in a profession like engineering because it tends to stand out. Things like presentations, my resume, etc., I like to make a little nicer.
As for other forms of creative arts, I come from a very musical family. I sing and play the piano and/or electric guitar and like to play classic rock and country music. I’m a big concertgoer and have seen Elton (twice), Paul McCartney, Journey, The Eagles, The Rolling Stones, Queen, Billy Joel, and Morgan Wallen (twice). My to-see list is Springsteen, Bon Jovi, and ELO.
I don’t really have much to show for a portfolio, just a few things I dug up from my camera roll, nothing fancy. Below is a snip of the slide set I designed for my IQP final presentation, an octopus I 3D printed in HS, my HS graduation cap, a flier I designed for my local library, and some pictures I took in Panama City, Panama; Sydney, Australia; Rio De Janeiro, Brazil; Rome, Italy; and Honolulu, Hawaii.

Striking- All of your included pieces have very intricate details and catch my eye. Specifically your photographs of the sunset and your graduation cap are very striking.
Funny – the 3D printed octopus has a joyful presence and almost funny look on its face.
Striking – The pictures are beautiful! And your other artwork shows your attention to detail.
Colorful – Your graduation cap does a really good job of blending the rainbow together in a very visually pleasing way.
Colorful — the photo you took and that graduation cap are so pretty! I love the colors you chose in the cap too — did you use a Cricut for that?
Sure did!! 🙂
familiar – depicts a lot of impressive places in the photographs but I like the people living their lives in them
Colorful – between the graduation cap and the photos, there are so many pretty colors in your artwork!
