My first cut was relatively successful. The computer in the Unity Prototyping lab would not allow me to download my design as an SVG, so I had to import it as a PDF. This meant that the swirly outline could not be separated from the raster engraved design. I added an additional rectangle encompassing my design directly in Retina Engrave, which yielded this result. This is not exactly what my original design entailed, but I am happy with it regardless.
I notice how clean the lines are and how it makes the design look even more stunning.
I’m struck by the shade of the lines. The lighter engraving looks really good with the drawing and it makes it look like a cohesive piece.
I’m struck by how clean your lines are as well as the light contrast of the lines, it makes it look very clean and professional.
I noticed the contrast between the edges and the drawing. I think this gives the piece a complete feel to it and helps focus the eye on unpacking the immense details in the center. I like how the movement of the piece plays with the harsh edge created with the laser cut edges and how it feels like the piece is radiating outward.
I appreciate how all the linework adds to the abstractness of the piece and the patterns seen throughout it are very striking.
