This piece is inspirational due to its layers having a natural feel to them. I want to emulate this in my art as I am basing it off one of my favorite characters, Groot. One thing that I hope to maintain in the 3D print is depth and logical paths that this artist, Philip Roberts, does in his work.

I am doing a Groot design; I am still trying to work on the layering portions of it. I tried a couple designs, but they ended up being too small, and probably too complicated to assemble. I think I will continue with what I was doing and have larker simpler sections then doing each branch individually. I am hoping to include wholes to express the 3D depth of a plant creature.
What is your plan for vector cuts, vector and raster engraves?
I am planning to just vector cut the lines
How many layers do you think it’ll take to accurately represent this image?
I am hoping to keep it to 3-5 layers.
How do you plan to deal with the separate details like the eyes and mouth?
I think staining it and having different layers will be able to provide sufficient detail.
What were your thoughts about adding depth to the body and arms as well as the face?
I plan to do layered and stained wood, I am hoping this provides a good sense of depth.
What are you thinking of doing regarding color/staining?
What made you decide to chose Groot as the subject for this work?
He is one of my favorite characters, I also have the ceramic pot that use that reminded me of him.
What is your plan for displaying Groot once he’s done? Will he be free standing, on a larger piece of wood / in a frame, or something else?
I think I will drill something into the back to hang it
What material do you plan on using?
Wood (stained), I think I will try to arrange the grains for contrast though
