This is my main rough design. It is an abstract polygonal sea turtle. Most parts will be larger from bottom to top, the exception being the triangular parts of the shell which will be openings that go deep into piece. I think I create an interesting contrast in the piece by letting onlookers view into the depths of the shell, a naturally closed off defense for the creature. My current plan is to create the piece from recycled cardboard. I want to use pre printed on cardboard to make a uniquely colorful and fun piece. This may be difficult working with different kinds of cardboard and avoiding clashing colors.
Below I have more sketches and writing that expalin my thought process a bit more. At this stage in planning I am most uncofident on how I want the flippers to be.
Some of the art from class that I really resonated with are the following pieces. I am inspired to make a 3d piece with “tunnels” leading into it for a cool effect. I also like to do sea creature inspired art as well! I look forward to seeing how combining contrasting elements turns out.

What kinds of packaging were you going to use for the turtle?
The first things that come to mind are cereal boxes, delivery packaging, the big cardboard boxes packs of ramen come in, and for smaller parts could use snack packaging for things like pop tarts or crackers.
Where are you going to get the cardboard?
My plans are too hopefully source all of it from my apartment. Me and my roomates have a lot of extra cardboard lying around, so I want to put it to good use.
