My concept sketch for my layers project is an acrylic lotus. I want to try and use both the cut out petals and leaves as well as the extra material that the flowers and petals will leave behind. It may end up being two separate pieces. I was inspired by Jen Stark’s work. I love her use of bright colors. It brings a joyful and youthful vibe to her work. I was also inspired by how she repeats patterns in her work as well. There is symmetry, which I find very satisfying. I tried to make the petals of my flowers like that. Lastly, I think that the way that she uses depth creates an almost mesmerizing piece of art. The use of layering pieces and holes of varying size sucks you in almost. I find it all so intentional and yet also very playful.
I didn’t really have a plan in terms of texture. I was more focused on the general shapes of the pieces. As of right now the main difference between the leaves and the lilly petals will be color.
What kind of texture are you aiming for in the petals? Is it different than the leaves/lilly?

What made you decide to make a lotus?
I have always liked flowers and I think that the lotus has a nice layer pattern that worked well for the assignment.
What is your plan for the size of the lotus?
I plan to have it be around 5 inches or so.
Are you planning to use light to shine through the acrylic?
I thought about it but was not sure how I would necessarily pull it off.
How are you planning to use the extra material that is left behind?
I plan on cutting the material in a way that allows me to make both a cut out shape and an outline of the shape similar to my inspiration art.
