Introduction and Portfolio – Mebi Nosike

Hi y’all, my name is Mebi and I am a sophomore here at WPI. My major is management engineering and I am from Worcester, MA. I’ve grown up in Worcester my whole life but was born in Nigeria and originally am from there. Art for me is an escape and is a place where I can express myself freely. When I was young I liked drawing a lot and even used to draw random things in my notebooks during school. I also like painting in my free time sometimes even though I’m not an expert but painting and art is something I do to relieve stress or when I am bored.

I do not have a lot of experience with traditional art making but I do have some experience in digital art. Most of my experience in digital art started last year when I was in AR 1101. In that class we used Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects. I made some animations and illustrations and I had fun doing it. I like digital art and graphic design a lot because I think I am pretty creative and I’ve always liked creating things on my laptop and computer ever since I was younger. I did a little CAD when I was in my senior year of high school where I made a 3D model with a few college students over the summer but that was my only experience with CAD and Solidworks.

I also like the amount of detail that goes into making art it really interests me. I remember when I was younger I went to a few art museums because I used to just love seeing the different things people had made all throughout the years. Other creative arts I like to practice are music and writing. I do not write as much these days but I like writing in my notes once in a while about different things because one the best ways I can express myself is in writing. I also love music a lot, I love listening to music and sometimes creating music. Last year I took a class called Topics in MIDI where we used MIDI music controllers to make our own beats and pieces and I really enjoyed it because I love everything about music and making beats and listening to music are things I really enjoy. I also like taking pictures of different things I find interesting when I go places. I want to take more pictures this year that’s one of my goals because it helps me remember memories and places I’ve been. I do not have any experiences being in Innovation Studio or any of the maker spaces but I am excited at all the cool things I can learn from this class like laser cutting etc.

I don’t have much to put in my portfolio but this is mostly a collection of some projects I did for classes and photos I’ve taken in South Africa, New York and a sunset in Worcester.
