Introduce Yourself & Share Your Portfolio Assignment – Kaitlyn Nguyen

Hello! I am Kaitlyn Nguyen from Dudley Massachusetts. I am a mechanical engineering major and computer science minor. I currently do art as a hobby. Traditional art used to be my strength until I recently started doing digital art. I still have much to improve in both fields but enjoy doing both. I have done traditional and digital art in my free time, but have taken a few specific classes that included the use of art, like high school art classes that covered basic fundamentals and specific courses here at WPI like 2d Animation 1 and Digital imaging. I tend to enjoy trying new things and starting new hobbies and have tried things from resin casting, clay modeling, and building things like papercraft models, wooden kits and miniatures, and Legos. I also have a few years of piano experience that I have lost a bit of due to lack or practice but want to improve upon some day! I’ve done a little bit of 3D printing in the makerspace but nothing big, as it was mainly for a CAD class.

I currently am into drawing things digitally and using my cutting machine to make stickers! While I have a few original designs and characters (and hope to have a lot more), I mainly draw fanart of video game characters (as well as a few from shows). I have also made a few acrylic keychain designs for which I have designed unique packaging for. As someone who loves to “buy and open cute things” as well as collect art, my goal is to recreate that experience for others and hope to one day have my own small business selling art in the form of stickers and keychains that can also provide that fun receiving and opening feeling! As of current I mostly only sell stuff in person at conventions which feature an “Artist Alley” where people can sign up to vend and showcase their stuff, but I hope to have an online storefront one day.
