James Teague Introduction/Portfolio

Hello, my name is James Teague. I am a Junior biomedical and mechanical engineering major here. I was born in Ohio but moved to Kentucky early on. In High school, I used to do a lot of art, I really enjoyed ceramics, but have stopped mostly here in college except for the occasional gift and class. My favorite thing to do in high school was go to the clay club and take ceramics classes. We would learn how to throw on the wheel and also help out the local community by making bowls for food shelters. I did AP studio art in high school, which was fun, I got a lot better at drawing through that course. The images below are my favorite pieces that I took to college along with a few others that I have made while here. Besides visual art, I used to do ballroom dancing and theater. I was primarily on the tech crew though for theater. I also enjoy taking care of my plants, the Groot pot being one of my favorite plant/pot combos. I do not have much experience with the makerspace or any forms of 3D manufacturing. All of my art so far has been either drawn or using clay. I have used a craft cutter in a lab that I work in to cut acetate and polyamide though, as well as assisting in laser cutting materials for a BME class.

This was a pot I made in a ceramic course in high school. It is Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy.

This was a painting I did in high school of a bridge near my house.

This is a copy of a famous painting, I have forgotten the name, that I did in an art class in my hometown.

This was a sculpture I made in my high school ceramics class. It is useful as a book stop.

This is a funny little pot/face guy that I made in my high school ceramics class.

Me and a friend did a little painting night, and this was my submission to it. We both copied one of bob ross’ videos.

Shiny – I chose the shiny badge because of the shine on your ceramics. I love how they are all useful in everyday life.

Shiny – The reflective glaze on the pottery is the reason I think your work is shiny. It is polished and clean!

Familiar — I love the study you did of the lighthouse painting; it reminds me of similar artwork my grandmother had in her house of some of the Cape Cod lighthouses 🙂

Thought-provoking: Your scenery paintings have a very nice feel to them with the colors and perspective making it easy to imagine yourself in those locations!

Inventive – making a Groot pot is inventive because then the plant inside kind of looks like hair! Your ceramics look great, and I think you should continue with ceramics since you say that you used to love it!
