Layers Project Finished – Laura Pellowski

on

Hi everyone! Here is my finished layers project:

My design concept was to create a wall decor piece that illustrates a cartoonish dinosaur theme, and I think I did a good job executing the idea! As pictured, it now lives on the wall in my apartment.

This was my first big piece that I used the laser cutter for, so things did not go totally smoothly. For one, I did not notice that the frame pieces did not cut all the way through until I took the plywood out of the laser cutter, so I spent a long time trying to line it back up to go over it with another pass (I really did not want to buy another sheet of plywood). I was only slightly off with my alignment, so it worked out okay. If you look closely it doesn’t line up perfectly, but that is okay. Another thing that happened was that I forgot that I had to subtract the frame piece from the ground pieces (so that they could fit inside the frame) so I had to recut those parts out.

I had a lot of fun mixing the paints for this piece, and I’m glad the colors complement each other well because I tend to get carried away with the colors.

Overall this piece turned out better than I was expecting!
