Kerri Thornton: Final Projects

Project 1: The Layers Project

Description: A roughly 4″x6″ 3D diorama of a painting I did last year. It is meant to be in the style of an illustrated children’s book, and features two main characters: a ne’er-do-well cat fleeing a bounty-hunting fox.

Construction: Layered 1/8th” laser cut and engraved Baltic birch wood, with additional details in brown and white paint.

Digital Software: Clip Studio Paint, Photoshop, Inkscape, Retina Engrave

Project 2: The Lantern Project

Construction: Secondhand desk lamp, laser cut pink acrylic (heated by heat gun and manipulated), 2-part epoxy sculpted leaves and stem (painted green with acrylic paint), vintage-style bulb.

OMG your lamp turned out so good!! I love the light that you chose for it, it really brings it all together. And I still really love the layers project, especially the leaves and the white highlights.

My favorite piece of yours is the lantern! When you pulled it out in class I was in awe of how good it turned out. I really like the pink color and how the edges catch the light.
