Samy Rosenberg’s Lantern Project Finished

on

For this project I wanted to showcase crows and their fun and quirky behavior. I chose to have a crow with a tool picking at a tree, a pair of crows cuddling, a crow flying, a crow with a marble in its mouth, and finally a skull. I was careful to include five living crows as the numbers of crows present corelates to different meanings, and I wanted this lantern to be lucky, with 5 crows correlating to receiving silver in your future.

To make the lantern I used Baltic birch plywood, with a kurf of 0.05 on the laser. This allowed for a tight pressure fit without the need for wood glue. I also used a stain in the color mahogany flame to finish the wood and make the piece feel complete. To diffuse light in the larger holes I applied a layer of white tissue paper and trimmed it with an exacto knife. To light the lantern I used a rechargeable light bulb with a hanging stand that my family had in our house.

I appreciate the intricacy that you focused on, especially the skull and crow on a branch sides. Those two really stand out and are amazing. The light is also very nice, i think it gives a cool eerie vibe.
