Lantern project Design – Sebastian Lanz

on

My inspiration for this project comes from 80s era nintendo and NES games. I decided to make a simple cube but then engrave and cut each side with cool details themed around a specific game. The top will have an NES lego cutout and the bottom will be blank and serve as a base. The 5 engraved pieces will be glued together and the base will be left separate to easily work with a light source.

Below is my rough design concept, I am unsure exactly what parts I want to cut out, but a of right now I will probably cut out the text for sure. As I work in inkscape, I will probably have a better idea of how to implement the cuts and engraves.

These are some reference images I will use when I design the project in inkscape

What are you thinking for a light source?

I will probably look into buying some leds, possibly multiple colors to change the color of each side.

Are you planning to make different depth areas for shading? And when you engrave it, how do you plan to deal with varying wood thickness?

What are you thinking in terms of materials?

    1. Alex says:

As of right now I am planning to use plywood.

What are you planning on using for the material of the box, and to diffuse/ change the color of the light in the box to match your designs?

I was planning on plywood and as of right now I am unsure if i want to get a light source of multiple colors or just use a single one. I definiteyl should look into it more, and using different colors would probably require some work on the inside to prvent the colors from clashing.

What are you planning in terms of lighting? Will each side be having a specific color based on the series?

I was planning on testing light sources once I assemble. I have no plans for color at this time but it could be a fun extra thing to do once I make the cuts.
