For my layers project, i’m making an inlay cutting board based on one of my p5.js drawings that i really liked. i’ll be cutting the main board on a CNC router as well as some of the inlay section, then most likely doing the fine bits of the inlay by hand. i’ve included the pattern that i’ll be using below. The main body will be a dark walnut, and the circles will be a light wood (probably ash because that’s what’s available around here, maybe poplar if i can find it).

So far, i’ve made the design, found a place to get the wood nearby, and made the toolpaths for machining. Next, i need to drive and get the wood, lay up the board itself, and then machine in the holes for inlay. Overall, it’s definitely going to be a lot of work, but i’ve done every part individually before, so i’m feeling pretty confident that i can string them together.
