I’ve finalized how I am going to put together my design by sourcing parts, creating a CAD model, and sending parts off to the print queue. I plan on using six Neopixel sticks with 8 LEDs each and an Arduino Nano to light up my piece. There will be 6x 0.25″ acrylic panels that are about 8x10cm. I haven’t yet made the designs that I will engrave into the acrylic but I do not anticipate that to take too long. If anyone has experience with edge lighting acrylic I’d love some feedback on that. Specifically, I would like to know if the spacing of my panels appears too close or too far in terms of if the piece feels too claustrophobic or too spaced out. Right now I have a simple rainbow pictured, some feedback on potential animations or color combinations would be appreciated. Below are the electronics that I will use.

I think the spacing should look good as it is. I think each piece would capture the light well on its own, while also having a nice combined effect. I would reccomend experimenting with the spacing of the colored layers, and seeing how they capture light before making a permanant base.
I think the distances look good as is, but I don’t really have experience with these. As for the design, maybe an optical illusion where each of the layers has part of the drawing so that its only visible while looking right at it. It depends how clear they are though.
I appreciate the thought you have put into planning this piece.
Were there any ideas you had for the drawing yet?
In my opinion, you might want to fillet the edges of the base so that it matches the acrylic.
I find it interesting that your piece will use light to enhance the layers designs. I love how your created a color gradient with the cut outs as well.
I don’t know much about lighting and this type of project yet but I think the space should work out pretty well. I think color suggestions will be largely dependent on what content you are including on each layer, as the color gradient should match the vibe you are looking for with the design. I also think that the rainbow might be too much depending on how translucent the material is as it may make some interesting color blends that you were not planning on.
