First Cuts

For my first cut I decided I wanted to cut my first drawing of the mindfulness symbol. The small piece on the right was my test cut and is roughly 2.75 by 2.75 inches and the bigger piece is 4 by 4 inches. I intended this to be a key chain so the smaller piece is definitely better for that purpose but the lines are not as crisp as on the bigger piece. I used the Unity Hall 48″ x 36″ laser cutter and the vector engraves were at 5% power with 1 pass and the vector cuts were at 10% power with 4 passes. The cuts were not completely clean and I kind of had to break it out of the rest of the wood on the corners. When I cut this design again I plan to make the cuts either have 5 or 6 passes or go with 15% or 20% power. I had a few issues at first getting set up but with help from the employee in the prototype lab at the time I was able to successful complete my cut.

I appreciate how you cut the piece out twice in 2 different sizes to see how the size of the actual image you cut can vary the final look of the piece. The burn marks on the smaller one create an interesting shadowy effect, but I do also like the clean lines that you achieved on the larger piece.
