The first project that we did in class was making drawings in Inkscape and cutting them on the laser cutter. I chose to do (from left to right) one of the robed figures from Inside Job with writing instead of shadows, Travel Hooty from The Owl House, and a code-generated design.

The second project was the Layers Project. For this, I decided to do a layered map of the Bay Area. I live in the Bay Area and I really wanted to represent it in a wooden map.

The next project was the Lantern Project where I decided to do a scene from Howl’s Moving Castle. I chose this scene because the general scene is relatively dark but there is a brighter “star” in the middle. This would work really well for a lantern because of that contrast.

The last project was the Altered Toy Project. When I think about the toys I had when I was younger, the first one that I think of is the Hex Bug Nano. Unfortunately, these are no longer really in production so I decided to make my own. I decided that mine would be different from the original by being a Hex Bug Macro, that is, it is much larger. I also made it into a desk light instead of a toy by using lights inside instead of a vibrating motor.

I love your lantern project. Howl’s is one of my favorite movies and I think you captured this scene perfectly. The shapes reflect that explosion of light effect and the colors are really beautiful.
I love the detail in your layers project
All of your work is very professional looking and is very clean. The hex bug game out great!
I really love the use of color in your lantern! Howl’s moving castle is one of my favorite ghibli movies and it really captures the essence and explosive colors of the scene. Overall, all your work turned out really clean!
I really like how the lantern project looks. It really captures the scene and intensity displayed in the movie. Gret work!
