First Cuts! – Kyla Fu

Here are my first cuts of my first and second designs!

More detailed pic of my 2nd design, this one it was interesting to see how you can actually see divots in the wood where several lines interlock. I at first encountered difficulties with the raster engrave but eventually figured out that I have to use the threshold setting and be sure to have enough brightness contrast between the colors I’m using
My first successful laser cut! This is entirely vector engrave cuts with the slightly darker lines being 75% speed and 4% power with the lighter lines have 75% speed and 2% power. At first I couldn’t get the middle tree to show up for some reason until I realized that the opacity in inkscape was set to 94% and not 100%.

I’m struck by how you used multiple spirals overlayed on top of each other in different directions. I appreciate how you added the functional top hole to drawing 1.

I noticed the irony of laser cutting a tree onto a piece of wood, was that on purpose lol? Great work!

I appreciate the intricacy of the geometrical shapes you created with code.

  4. Ben says:

I appreciate the way you added the wood grain with the laser to create the image of trees

  5. Percy says:

wow, the generated piece literally looks 3D. the way the vector lines are so close together in the center of the spiral add such a neat effect that really draws the eyes inward.

I noticed that the trees look amazing and the laser cut looks amazing.

I’m struck by the programed piece because of how it spirals and seems to suck you in.

  8. Amanda says:

I am struck by the shading that has been incorporated into the spirals and how much depth it gives the piece

  9. Sam says:

I am intrigued by the complexity of the spiral design. The squares alternate between shaded and outline and spiral into the center with the other spirograph design.

  10. Harris says:

I am struck by how the spiral pulls me into the piece!

I appreciate the way you were able to use a spiral pattern to convey a sense of depth to your image.
