Altered Toys Design (Jonathan Amirault)

on

As a kid, one of my absolute all time favorite toys to play with were Legos. They were so straight forward, you could never really “mess up” when building with Legos as they could fit together in any way you tried to put them together. Something else that I used to love, and still love are puzzles. I love the process of building a massive puzzle, and it is very satisfying when you put a piece in knowing that the piece you just put in is the only piece that could go in that spot. I decided to combine these ideas together by creating a Lego brick that can only go in exactly one way. By varying the shapes on the top of the brick, the bricks should only be able to stack one way. It would absolutely drive me crazy as a child if I were to pick one of these up and try to build with it, but I feel like its impracticality is a good way of paying homage to 2 of my favorite activities as a child: Puzzles and Legos.
