Layers Project

Pictured above is my Layers project. For this project I created a depth map of the ocean surrounding my town. There are four layers, and two with raster engravings.

Above is the .svg file created in Inkscape, and the map used to trace the file.

Lantern Project

For my lantern project, I created an iteration of my layers project. It incorporates light by using LED standoffs, which illuminate engraved pieces of acrylic.

This is the first version of my lantern project. I decided to re-cut the top and acrylic layers, as the words on those layers were hardly visible.
This is a split view of the project. The LED standoffs were used to screw these two sections together. The acrylic is glued to the wood with construction epoxy. The three bottom wood layers were painted with acrylic paint and covered with a resin. The top wood layer was stained with a walnut finish and coated in polyurethane. A frame was also cut for the final version.

Altered Toys

For the Altered Toys project I based my creation on a toy I loved as a kid, Tech Decks. To satisfy the alteration specification of this project, I created a ski/ snowboard version. The picture above is the final 3D printed version of the park I made.
Here is the part modeled in SolidWorks.

Quick demo.

The layers project with the lights around the edge of the map, as well as the stained wood is such a beautiful piece. I also love how you were able to incorporate the names on the map in a different color as well!

Your lantern project turned out AMAZING! I love how the light plays with the engraved acrylic, giving the piece an ethereal feel!
