Layers Project WIP – Percy

I was able to get to the laser to cut my design this weekend. However, it is not quite finished as I have not had the time to acquire wood stain and glue and complete the project. I expect it to be finished very soon! My question is – I am unsure whether I want to glue the acrylic piece on top, or have it be removable in some way. Would this be interesting, and does anyone have any suggestions for how to go about doing so?

EDIT:

Here is the current state of the piece! I am considering adding a hook on the back to hang it on a wall. Otherwise, I am considering it done.

I enjoy how the acrylic pieces that lay outside the wood pieces add a new dimension to the piece and create a different look similar to how fur has various different textures and lights. I would say for gluing he wood should probably be glued together but if you could make it so the acrylic layer is able to be taken off as a single layer it could add a cool aesthetic. Another interesting direction you could take it in is having each layer or couple of layers finished differently so you can pull off layers revealing different artworks.

I love your use of materials. The piece is very compelling. You could potentially use inset magnets or a simple mechanical interlock to attach the acrylic while still having it removable.

If you are concerned about gluing it because the glue would be visible, you could maybe add dowel holes to align the pieces and hold them all together. Although that would likely require re-making the entire piece.
Opinion: I really like the idea of using two different materials in one piece, it adds a cool depth to the piece.

This is a great design with two types of material. What would your intent be when removing the acrylic? I think it could also be cool to add acrylic in other smaller places such as the eyes and nose areas.

In my opinion, I think keeping it removable allows people to really see each layer and then together it gives even more detail which is super cool.

Cool concept. I love the mix of wood and acrylic used in this piece. I think it is cool that you used engravings to create the fur.
