Final Projects – Percy

on

My first cuts project ended up being one of my favourite pieces so I’m including it here too! This was just a simple vector drawing of my character Rosencrantz with raster engravings for shadows and colour difference.

My layers project was based on the idea of an anatomical model that shows the skeleton under the skin. I chose to do a wolf skull because they’re easily identifiable and pretty neat looking. I created a base for it with fur texture and painted it copper because it looked nice. The skull is made of layers of unpainted plywood to show the depth of the different areas of the skull. On top is an acrylic piece with fur details vector engraved that shows how the fur lays over the skull.

For my lantern project, I was interested in the concept of reverse raster engraving. This process lets you make something that looks completely blank when viewed in normal light, but shows a pattern when a light is shined inside. Unfortunately, I had many issues with getting this to work and it is not nearly as detailed as I hoped it would be. My concept for this piece was quite abstract and focused on the idea of someone who’s life is being controlled by external forces before they are even born. This is represented in with the egg, that cracks overtime before eventually hatching into a chick. The four sides of the box show an angel, a bird, eyes, and a devil (although unfortunately the devil was completely lost).

For my altered toys project, I decided to create a custom Littlest Pet Shop toy of my character Rosencrantz. I sculpted it in Zbrush and printed it out using a resin printer. I plan on painting this over break and will update the post when it has been painted. Unfortunately due to scaling issues the head turned out smaller than intended, so the proportions no longer look much like a Littlest Pet Shop, but I am otherwise still very happy with the final product.
