Lanter Project

For my Lanterns Project I decided to go with a New York city type of theme. I used wood to make the box, paper to make a hollow glow effect with the RGB lights and foamboard to hold the paper up. I laser cut the paper and wood. I used an x-acto knife to cut the foamboard. There are 6 layers in my lantern: the first 5 layers are made of notecard and the last layer is made out of a thin sheet of paper. This allowed more RGB light to come through the back of the box but, not over light the scene. The RGB lights I used are battery powered.

Layers Project

For my Layers Project, I was inspired by the diorama artworks demonstrated in class. More specifically the forest dioramas. My design was based off using color saturations to create a forest scene. The outer boundaries of my piece are acrylic, and the trees are wood. I used green acrylic paint with black and white acrylic to create the 3 different types of saturation values of green. I wasn’t able to create last part of this piece which was to create the stary background because I broke my model and had to start from the beginning. Overall, I think my piece looks great considering I had to redo it.

Altered Toys Project

For my Altered Toys Project, I created a toy turtle. I used baby dragon from YU-GI-OH! as inspiration. I thought it would be cool to create a baby version of a mythical creature. I used the dragon turtle as reference and created a dragon baby turtle. I 3D modeled this project in Nomad which is a 3D modeling software on the IPAD. It was my first time using the software, so there were some bumps along the way but, overall, it went well. I painted my model using green, brown, white and brown acrylic paint. This project went relatively smoothly because a fellow classmate printed my model who has experience printing 3D models. I wanted to print it out but, the que for the printing was 9 days. I would like to thank her for her help!

Your lantern is so intricate and cute. The green color choice adds an ominous vibe to me because it is not typical for the sky to be green and green is often associated with things that are toxic, so it has an interesting dystopian feel to me.

I really like that you painted your pieces, it completes the look and brings the design to life. In your layers project, I like how cohesive it looks with the entire design painted green. In both your lantern and layers projects, I really admire your use and ability to create depth within your designs.
