For my layer design, I decided to go with a forest type of environment. I want to work with saturation values and see how I can manipulate the trees and layers using different types of wood textures and colors. I’m excited to see how the environment plays out. I haven’t decided if I want a closed or open cut. I think it would be cool to create a painted background.

What were your thoughts about the types of trees you are going to portray in your piece? Will they have meaning or are they mostly for aesthetic purposes?

    1. Daniel says:

For the most part, each tree will be designed differently but, still resemble the designs above. I will portray each layer of trees in a different saturation of the same color. The closer trees will be less saturated and the trees in the back will be more saturated. I’m still deciding on my color choice.

What were your thoughts about the background you would paint? Would it be a night sky as pictured?

    1. Daniel says:

I’m using a clear acrylic material. I plan on painting it black and using crystal clear to make it shine more. I also plan on painting stars. Paint Choice: Acrylic.

What is your plan for the stars in your sketch? Will they be painted or will you make then separately with a different material?

    1. Daniel says:

I plan on using acrylic paint for the stars. I plan on smacking a brush and hoping that the paint will splatter onto the acrylic material in a unique and cool design.

What is your plan to assemble all the layers together and what kind of finishing will you use (if any) wood finish or paint.

    1. Daniel says:

I plan on assembling the more saturated (darker) trees in the back and the colorful trees in the front. I’m planning on using wood for the trees, acrylic for the boundaries, and clear acrylic for the background. I plan on using acrylic paint to paint everything.

How did you draw those bears!? They look great!

    1. Daniel says:

Thankyou! I used Photoshop and for designing them I just used a bear reference. I used the lasso tool for the trees, bears and wood log.

What is your plan for the background? Will it be open like the example, or have black with stars like in the sketch?

  7. Daniel says:

I plan on using a clear acrylic material (very thin) for the background. I plan on painting the background and stars using acrylic paint. I will be using my brush and splattering the stars onto the canvas.
