My plan for my lantern is to use cardboard to make a short box with one of the sides missing. That opening will allow me to slide my phone into the box and use its adjustable flashlight as a light source. The top face of the box will host the design which I traced in Inkscape. The design itself is a Servitor from Destiny 2, they’re one of the enemies the player fights are resemble large floating spheres with an energy weapon in their center that looks like a mechanical eye. I also plan to use a sheet of printer paper on the inside face of the box to diffuse the light.
How did you decide to use the Servitor as the subject for the piece?
I knew I wanted to do something Destiny related and the Servitor was a nice symmetrical design with a light source so it just made sense to me.
Do you plan to include other views of the Servitor on other sides of the box?
That would have been a great idea but no, the box is too thin for multiple views as I designed it to just be large enough to let my phone slide in to provide light.
I love the design for the box! You might try rastering the different colors different depths to get color to come through. It would be cool to have the center, really thin or open as if its using its “eye”.
