for my first cuts I used my first three drawings with varying success. For my first piece I attempted to print my eagle line drawing. this cut was came out quite well early on with the exception of the belly feathers getting too fragile and falling off in the first prints as well as some dark spots that penetrated through the wood. after adjusting settings and making another cut the eye hole was not prominent enough and after widening and moving the eyebrow it produced the result below that I was happy with. my second drawing was the yin-yang symbol featured below. this piece came out well even on the first attempt however not knowing when to quit when I was ahead, I cut too much material and made the piece to dark on the first attempt. by cutting the piece in stages and adding depth to the piece I was able to produce the piece below which I felt happy with. if I could change something about it in the future I would try to create more depth while still maintaining the light side of the yin-yang symbol. that fine balance between burning material off yet maintaining lightness of the wood is a fine balance that I am still trying to master. for the final piece I printed the computer generated artwork, it came out well however the center is quite fragile and falls apart due to the many passes by the laser.

I noticed the sense of depth created in your 3rd drawing. It’s interesting how the density of the engraves makes it look almost 3d. I’m also struck by your ying-yang piece; getting the layers to be differentiated yet still smooth must’ve been difficult
I noticed that the density of the feathers on the eagle makes it look like it has different colored feathers.
I noticed different levels of wood in the yin yang. It makes it look so cool especially with the different engraves on yin and yang.
I appreciate the attention to detail on the wings, specifically the feathers, of the bird. It really adds more to the piece and gives it texture
I appreciate the texture and color you were able to achieve on your yin yang symbol. It’s really clean looking and I notice the contrast between the rim and the rest of the design.
